While HYPE offers a host of volunteer opportunities through our annual events, we also give you a chance to get involved in more hands-on activities.

Twenty-First Annual Citywide Science Fair

No experience necessary
Once again the time has come for your chance to volunteer to be a judge at this year’s Hartford Public Schools’ Twenty-First Annual Citywide Science Fair. Be inspired by the little ones as they share their projects with you. The time commitment will run from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm (with the first half hour being a training session reviewing the rubric).
Each project is judged independently by five to six Judges whosescores are then averaged. Volunteers may request to judge grade levels K-3, 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12.
Lunch will be provided.

Easter Seals Volleyball Tournament at Trinity College
Friday, March 16

10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Teams will compete against opponents of similar skill level within their division. The format is "rally point" to 21 points, meaning a point is awarded after each serve. Please note that there are no changing facilities at Trinity College, so come dressed to play. Sport drinks, snacks and water will be available for all participants.
Don’t forget! In addition to a fun-filled day of volleyball, this event raises thousands of dollars to support programs and services that help disabled people. Team members can solicit pledges from individuals and businesses to raise money.
HYPE Cup players can earn an extra two points for participating. Two points per HYPE Cup player on any team (Entire team need not be HYPE Cup participants.)

The YMCA Mission in Motion Ride

Join us for our 2nd Annual CYCLE-A-THON-“Mission in Motion” Ride in the
atrium of the XL Center to inspire members to give back to their
community. We have great instructors leading our Mission in Motion Ride.
Each bike is a team bike. The minimum fund raising goal for each team is
$500. Please register your team with Tiffany Archibald or Tim Kelly in

Bowl for Kids' Sake

Bowl for Kids' Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters largest national fundraiser, raising over $20 million annually for children in need across the country. Because of Bowl for Kids' Sake, more Bigs and Littles can be paired up, more friendships can be created and improved outlooks on life can be started. HYPE members may participate for a minimum donation of $50 by clicking the HYPE option under "General Registration" on your registration form.
Also Bowl for Kids' Sake is looking for 6 volunteers for each session (10 am, noon, 2 pm) to help hand-out T-shirts, check-in, and sell raffle tickets at various times throughout the day.Volunteers will still be eligible to bowl during a different session! Imagine having to choose between feeding your children
and providing them with heat or electricity? Our newest 5K, Burn
Calories for Fuel, is a fundraiser for Operation Fuel, a nonprofit
organization that provides emergency energy assistance to families, the
elderly and disabled Connecticut residents. The Burn 5K course is a
great run! Long straightaways and only four turns on quiet streets will
make this a perennial favorite in no time. And the icing on the cake is
the post race party catered by Burton's Grill! For more information and

Freshplace
This is not your typical food pantry.
At
Freshplace, patrons shop for fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy
products in addition to staple items. All patrons get to choose foods
that meet their individual health, cultural and family needs.
Freshplace also offers intake and referral services as an integral part
of their mission.
Volunteers are needed to help with
the
following:
- Checking in patrons
- Stocking shelves
- Assisting patrons with shopping
Freshplace is open
Tuesday and Thursday from 10a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m.
to 1 p.m. Volunteers can staff half of a shift, which is a two-hour
block, or a whole shift, which is a four-hour block. You can volunteer
as part of an ongoing commitment or as a one-time volunteer.
To
earn a HYPE Cup point for your team, you must complete at least two
hours of service.Maximum 5 points per player.
