Tell us about Rebecca Reinbold Couture
The name of my business is Rebecca Reinbold Couture, I design and sew made to measure garments for people. These garments range from a skirt, pant, and prom dress to a wedding dress. I also make more specialized garments if needed. In the past, I've made costumes for figure skaters and an Irish step dancer!
Why did you decide to start your business in Greater Hartford?
I moved back here over ten years ago and saw a demand for alterations and custom made garments.
How does your business impact the community?
I feel my service fills a need to the people in the community in a way that helps people fit in their clothes better. For example, if someone lost weight I can take in their clothing or if someone has a “hard to fit figure”, a garment can be made to their specific measurements.
What words of wisdom would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs who may be hesitant to take the plunge into entrepreneurship?
Do what you love and the rest will follow. It’s hard work but always remember it’s for you. Surround yourself with other entrepreneurs, having a good support group helps a lot!
What is it like being an entrepreneur in Greater Hartford? What difficulties or challenges have you faced?
I feel blessed that I have not faced any difficulties or challenges. It seems to me Hartford has a lot to offer in the way of support for young entrepreneurs.
What is your vision for your business over the next five years?
I’m always amazed by people’s reaction when I tell them what I do. I think what I do is a dying art. People don’t always think to have a garment made or altered; they go out and buy it. Then they are not really happy because it does not fit right or it might not be the right color. I’d like to somehow show people that, yes, it is possible to have a garment made to fit you and in the color and/or fabric you want!
