An important part of HYPE’s commitment to strengthening the Hartford Region is our members’ dedication to our various local volunteer opportunities.
Travelers Championship
The PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship is Connecticut’s highest-profile sporting event, and HYPE teams up with The First Tee Connecticut and the Travelers Championship for an annual fundraising bash to support The First Tee. The organization teaches life skills to young people of diverse backgrounds through the game of golf. This event features a 3-hole mini tournament, live music, delicious refreshments and a silent auction, among assorted other entertaining activities. In 2011, more than 350 people attended this event and raised $13,000! The 2012 event is scheduled for Thursday, June 21.
Tons of Toys
In the spirit of holiday giving, Tons of Toys has become one of HYPE’s most anticipated and well-attended events. This sophisticated gathering combines savory food, dazzling drinks and festive activities with charitable giving to the Village for Families and Children’s Holiday Giving Tree Program. Admission is one new, unwrapped child’s toy. Our annual partnership with the Greater Hartford Jaycees and various sponsors also raises funds for a shopping spree in advance of the Tons of Toys event. In 2010, the shopping spree budget reached $4,600 and our event attracted more than 200 people, resulting in nearly 950 toys collected for children in the Hartford Region. The 2011 event is scheduled for Wednesday, December 14.
HYPE Cup Extra Points
HYPE Cup players can earn extra points for their team by participating in specially identified partner events. In the 2010-2011 season, HYPE partnered with several organizations and supported more than a dozen community and charity events, including the Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser, the Hands on Hartford Dash for a Difference, and various Hartford Marathon Foundation events. Leaders on Board
HYPE is proud to partner with Leadership Greater Hartford in offering the Leaders on Board experience. This two-part program begins with a comprehensive overview of what it means to serve on a non-profit board of directors. The second part, Express Match, introduces individual HYPE members to representatives from local non-profits looking for young professionals to serve on their boards. To date, this partnership has resulted in more than 35 board placements.
Giving back to the Hartford Region is at the heart of HYPE membership.
