Mayor Pedro E. Segarra was sworn into office on June 25, 2010. Segarra gained his experience through a unique background including: legal, community, and government experience. In 1991, he was appointed Corporation Counsel for the City of Hartford, the youngest person ever selected for the position at the time and was appointed for three consecutive terms. He was appointed to City Council in 2006, elected in his own right in 2007, and became Council President in January of 2010. Up until ascending to the Office of Mayor, he was the managing partner of the Hartford Law Office of Segarra and Associates.
Mayor Segarra has also been heavily involved in the community throughout his life. He was a founding member of Hogar Crea, a rehabilitation center that prevents and treats addictions. The Hispanic Health Council, a council with the mission to improve the health and social well being of Latinos and other diverse communities. He also is involved with CLARO, a nonprofit group dedicated to advocacy of gay and lesbian Latinos.
Doug Suisman is the Founder and Principal of Suisman Urban Design. As an urban designer and licensed architect, his work focuses on sustainable regional development, urban revitalization, public spaces and buildings, and public transit. His clients range from planning ministries, public agencies and think tanks to developers and community groups in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Ramallah, San Antonio and San Francisco. His projects include master plans and detailed designs for regional transit systems, downtowns, civic centers, plazas, parks and streetscapes.
