Salute to Clif Hirtle

Jun 15, 2012

While we are sad to see Clif go, we wish him the best of luck as he moves to Boston to take on a new position!  We'd also like to thank our current HYPE Chair Mike Carucci, someone who knows Clif well and has worked with him extensively, for crafting this touching message:

If asked to describe Clif Hirtle in three words beyond good friend I would pick these: Connector, Innovator and Humanitarian.

As a Connector, Clif has worked to create Startup Café, a
Meetup group with well over 200 members, and served at the Chairman of HYPE’s Entrepreneur Committee with the goal to bring together entrepreneurs of all ages and interests with the hope of fostering a stronger entrepreneur community for the Region.

As an Innovator, Clif has created relationships and solutions to preserve and digitally spread the rich history of Hartford and the surrounding towns through the creation of pod casts for Bushnell Park, the Hartford History Center within the Hartford Public Library and for the Friends of Center Cemetery in East Hartford. Clif has also been a driving force and central figure in the creation of which provides the single most comprehensive listing of events and activities happening in the Capital City.

His last attribute, Humanitarian, is perhaps the underlying motivation for much of the work that Clif complied while in CT. He is always willing to take a meeting, a call and follow up on an invitation for lunch at the request of any interested party. Much the work he has done outside of UConn is focused on enriching the community he lives in and to, in some small way make the lives of those he calls neighbor just a little bit better. He is a man of few words, big ideas and an even bigger heart; a heart that has contributed to the Beat of the Capital City and one who’s rhythm and energy will carry on through the groups and projects which bear his handprints.

We wish him success and much happiness in his new pursuits in Boston where he can rest assured to have many an overnight guest from the Nutmeg State! Go get’em Clif!

Join us at Salute on Tuesday, June 19 after 6:30pm to wish Clif well!
