One of HYPE’s most popular and well received events of the year is Tee it Up for Charity at the Travelers Championship
. Part party, part fundraiser, part golfing, all fun, Tee it Up is an event that attracts over 300 HYPEsters every year. This year even
saw professional golfer Notah Begay III
make an appearance to chat with the area’s young professionals. HYPE subsidizes the entire event, so every dollar that comes in is donated back to charity. The June 21, 2012 event raised $14,000 to support The First Tee of Connecticut
and Junior Achievement of Southwest New England
The silent auction was incredibly successful, supported by donations from local businesses from all around the Hartford area. Attendees found 52 different packages to bid on, offering everything from overnight hotel stays with restaurant gift cards, to a yoga membership, jewelry, and even an acupuncture treatment! Many of the items were displayed directly next to the bid sheet for easy inspection prior to placing a bid. The bidding was competitive and several attendees were hovering around the bid sheets when the auction closed at 8:15, hoping to get that last winning bid in! Overall, the silent auction raised over 30% of our $14,000 total!
HYPE member and past-chair Ryan Friedman organized an optional mini golf tournament on the practice facility at the TPC. The course included two “closest to the pin” games, as well as a putting challenge to sink the ball with the least amount of strokes. The person to have the lowest overall score throughout all three games was awarded a pitching wedge and given recognition on stage. Congratulations to Brant Keller on winning the Tee it Up Mini Tournament for the second year in a row! If an appearance by a pro-golfer, robust silent auction and competitive golf tournament weren’t enough, the refreshments and entertainment really put this event over the top! Picnic Basket Catering
of Cromwell provided us with delicious bites, including Pear and Gorgonzola Flatbreads, Tuscan Chicken Skewers, and Roasted Beef Tenderloin Crostinis. The CT-based cover band Radio Giant
put on a show like no other, belting tunes everyone enjoyed from Jason Mraz to Journey! Have you gotten a chance to check out the fantastic photo album
yet? Photography Ben Pollard
of Memory Manufacturing
captured the evening perfectly!
We would like to thank all our volunteers for their
assistance before, during, and after this event. Without your help securing auction items, staffing registration tables, and promoting the event, Tee it Up would be nearly impossible to pull off. Another big thanks to all the local businesses who donated items for the silent auction! Lastly, thank you to everyone who took the time out of their schedules to join us for this event, your support is much appreciated. Please save the date of Thursday, June 20, 2013 and join us at next year's Tee it Up for Charity at the Travelers Championship!
