Hanging Out with HYPE - Partners in Achievement Breakfast

Apr 30, 2015

Junior Achievement of Southwest New England (JA) will host its annual Partners in Achievement year-end breakfast on Thursday, May 21st, 7:15-9:00am at the Hartford Marriott Downtown.

The JA Annual Breakfast is considered one of Hartford's best opportunities to network with the region's top business leaders, and last year's event was attended by more than 400 people!  Now more than ever, children need to learn financial responsibility, workforce readiness and how to start their own businesses. During this breakfast you will get to hear firsthand from students, educators and volunteers who have experienced JA programs.

This is an amazing opportunity for students to learn and grow professionally before even graduating college! We will be hearing from a few different students that day:

HYPE and JA teamed up in 2013 to create the Entrepreneurial Academy, a program that brings urban and suburban high school students together to gain skills in entrepreneurism, leadership, teamwork, ethics and career development. There are currently two separate classes in this program serving students from different parts of the Greater Hartford Region; one takes place at the JA offices in Hartford and is supported by The Hartford, and the other is hosted and supported by Stanley Black & Decker in New Britain.

The JA Entrepreneurial Academy will once again be the beneficiary of Tee it Up for Charity at the Travelers Championship (Thursday, June 25, save the date!).  We've also expanded our involvement in the program beyond fundraising. 2015 HYPE Chair Adam McLaughlin from Webster Bank, and Community Involvement Vice Chair Stella Szantova Giordano from Murtha Cullina LLP, are serving as board members for this year's Hartford location. 2014 HYPE Chair McKinley Albert, from Hartford's Camp Courant, and HYPE Program Specialist Jackie Valliere are serving on the New Britain board.

"The Partners in Achievement breakfast is one of my favorite events of the year!  I’ve learned about a new program or aspect of JA every time I’ve gone to this breakfast, and with such a great attendance, the networking that happens there is really valuable. The impact this organization has on our Region is absolutely amazing, and I have no doubt the student speakers will be incredibly impressive yet again this year. Hope to see you there!" - HYPE Executive Director Julie Daly Meehan.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to network and support the more than 36,000 young people JA will serve this school year!

The event is completely free to attend, and there will be an opportunity to make a personal donation to JA. If you'd like to go, please contact Kelly McGurk at kmcgurk@jaconn.org or 860-525-4510 ex237. Please be sure to let her know that you'd like to join HYPE Executive Director Julie Daly Meehan, and other members of HYPE's leadership team at the HYPE table!
