Tell us about Night Fall
Night Fall is a non-profit organization that presents a free celebratory performance-event held annually in Hartford’s public parks, featuring dance, music and giant puppets. This year, Night Fall will be held on Saturday, October 10th at Keney Park in Hartford.
Why did you decide to start your business in Hartford?
Night Fall was the dream of Artist Anne Cubberly to bring free public art to Hartford communities while calling attention to Hartford’s beautiful natural spaces.
How does your business impact the community?
We foster community relationships and arts engagement by presenting free workshops throughout the city. Night Fall is community sourced in staffing, casting, volunteer base, and funding, with a focus on collaborating with and fairly paying local artists. We celebrate nature and strive for sustainability using recycled materials and leaving no post-event footprint. Inspired by each neighborhood’s diversity, culture, and history, Night Fall is a uniquely Hartford celebration and signature event for the region that draws people together to creatively transform our capital city.
What words of wisdom would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs who may be hesitant to take the plunge into entrepreneurship?
Be hesitant! It’s hard work! But we should all do the thing we are most scared of doing.
What is it like being an entrepreneur in Hartford? What difficulties or challenges have you faced?
Hartford has so many resources for entrepreneurs. There is a community of people who are trying to make small business work in Hartford and we are very supportive of one another. One of our biggest concerns is capacity. We obviously want to increase our presence in the community but we recognize it would be a mistake to grow too big too fast.
What is your vision for your business over the next five years?
In the next 5 years, Night Fall will become a destination event for Hartford, with people traveling from far and wide to see the performance each year, increasing tourism and commerce in the city, solidifying Hartford as a city where art and culture thrive, and fostering a sense of local pride through our shared experiences.
