Save the date! Our annual Tee It Up for Charity at the Travelers Championship fundraiser is happening Thursday, August 4th! As in previous years, there will be three beneficiaries of this event. We are happy to continue our support of The First Tee of Connecticut and Junior Achievement of Southwest New England, and excited to announce our third beneficiary for 2016, Hartford's Camp Courant! We wanted to give everyone the opportunity to learn more about each organization, the great work they do, and what the support of Tee it Up for Charity proceeds means to organization.
Hartford's Camp Courant is the oldest and largest FREE summer day program in the nation. Founded in 1894 by a group of Hartford Courant employees looking to make a difference for the youth of the City, Hartford’s Camp Courant now serves over 1,000 of Hartford's children, ages five to 12, typically between 500 - 600 children per day for six weeks each summer. Hartford’s Camp Courant is the only summer camp available to Hartford’s inner-city youth which provides transportation, preventive and acute health and social work services, two nutritious meals a day, and recreational, educational and developmental activities, all at no cost to the camper or his or her family. "We are honored to have been selected as one of the beneficiaries for HYPE's annual Tee It Up for Charity fundraiser. As a robust youth development organization, we not only provide a fun and educational experience for over 1,000 of Hartford's kids annually, but we also expose our campers to the wonderful assets here in the greater Hartford community. It is only natural that when our campers are old enough, they will want to get involved with organizations like HYPE in an effort to become better engaged in their communities. Support from organizations like HYPE allow us to provide the best summer experience possible, FREE of charge, for Hartford's youth. On behalf of our amazing campers, THANK YOU for your support. We are looking forward to an awesome summer."- McKinley Albert, Executive Director & CEO
Junior Achievement (JA) focuses on making students financially responsible, prepared for the workforce and entrepreneurially savvy. JA provides a powerful learning experience for young people for two reasons:
- JA programs are delivered by volunteers from business and the community, who work hand in hand with classroom teachers. These volunteers inspire the students through their real-world experience.
- The curriculum consists of hands-on activities that allow the students to learn by doing. Designed by national experts in learning, activities are engaging, fun and comprehensive. All JA lessons correlate to the state curriculum standards.
While most of JA’s programs are provided to students during the school day as a part of regular classes, JA also has programs for after-school settings and sponsors conferences and other learning opportunities at local company sites and colleges and universities. JA is proud to reach thousands of young people in this region. Click here for more information on getting involved.
“HYPE’s donations have helped Junior Achievement inspire and prepare local high school students to dream big about their futures. Through HYPE’s support of our JA Entrepreneurial Academy program, more than 100 young people over the past four years, have gained firsthand experience in entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership and workforce development by creating and operating real businesses. By supporting JA, HYPE is contributing to the education, community and economic development of this region."- Jeremy Race, COO
The First Tee of Connecticut is reaching thousands of youth each year through a variety of ways including In-School and National School Programs, Group Lessons, Squads, On-Course Team Programs and Summer Camps. Along with golf instruction, The First Tee's Life Skills Curriculum focuses on nine core values (Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Courtesy, Judgment, Confidence, Responsibility and Perseverance) and nine healthy habits (Energy, Play, Safety, Vision, Mind, Family, Friends, School and Community) introducing young people to skills associated with positive youth development. Recognizing that the game of golf embodies these core values, The First Tee of Connecticut believes that participating in programs will improve the lives of those who embrace the game’s traditions and values. "The First Tee of Connecticut is grateful to be a continued part of HYPE’s Tee it Up For Charity fundraiser during Travelers Championship week. Not only has the Tee it Up For Charity event been a tremendous fundraiser for The First Tee of Connecticut since 2009, it has been a fantastic friend raiser. Young people are at the heart of The First Tee of Connecticut’s mission – we impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. We’re honored that with HYPE’s continued support, we will positively impact the future young professionals and entrepreneurs who will subsequently become the next generation of HYPE members!
Now in our second decade of programming, The First Tee of Connecticut is proud to have made a positive difference in the lives of thousands of Connecticut’s children. 100% of the monies raised through HYPE’s Tee it Up for Charity support our In-School Programs, Group Lessons and Teams programs serving Connecticut children statewide – nearly 69,000 in 2015! A million thanks to HYPE and its members for helping us put Connecticut’s children on the right course!"- Tracy Rice, Manager of Development & Communications
