Why did you decide to start your own business in Greater Hartford?
Most people see Hartford one of two ways. The insurance capital of our country or a capital of crime and dysfunction. The truth is, Hartford is ARTford. A city made up of the most loving, socially conscious and independently passionate individuals all connecting to create something positive and new. Tainted wants to be a pioneer on that path and Hartford is the perfect place to start.
How does your business impact the community?
We partner with over 57 non-profits and for profits businesses in the State of Connecticut. True colors, The Village for Children and Families and Trashion Fashion, just to name a few.
We work very closely with several non-profit organizations and collaborate with a multitude of artists to help bring art to our youth. We run art programs weekly at the Village for Children and Families here in Hartford, have organized community clean ups, art events and are regularly visible in our city to help inspire change and growth among our peers. Our heart space is for the children in our community and we are always willing to share our time to help them see the beauty in their lives and their community.
What wise words of wisdom would you give to an entrepreneur who may be hesitant to take the plunge into entrepreneurship?
Being an entrepreneur is a calling, just like anything in life dream or purpose. To deny the voice you hear, is to commit spiritual suicide. Our advice: Take a deep breath, close your eyes and leap.
What is it like being an entrepreneur in Greater Hartford? What difficulties or challenges have you faced?
It is exciting to be creating the change we want to see in our community. We find it challenging at times to open people’s eyes and expanding their minds to the possibility of something new and different.
