Tell us about Lets Start From Scratch
Lets Start From Scratch is a healthy prepared meals and boutique catering service. We provide delicious nutritious meals to those who do not have the time, or know how, but want to eat healthy. Our service is excellent for those who do not have the time to shop, prepare, or clean up. We offer lean proteins, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options in our weekly menu. Meals are made fresh each week and ready to eat. Boutique catering means we build our menus around the client's culinary needs for their event. While we have many sample menus to choose from, we also love to create new options for individuals. We also make many healthy desserts and frozen treats.

Why did you decide to start your own business in Greater Hartford?
I am local to the Greater Hartford area so staring my business here was not only practical, but also a community I felt connected to. I started doing many events in Hartford such as the West End farmers market, KNOW Good market, and I work with KNOX often. Hartford immediately embraced me. I gained clients who I saw weekly, families who told me how my product made their lives easier, and a personal connection was made. The community really showed me they wanted me here, so it became my focus.
How does your business impact the community?
My business provides a convenience to the community. My meals are healthy and ready to eat making nutrition readily available and not something you have to worry about. All the time it takes to shop, prepare, and clean up is given back to you when you order from us. We also provide many smaller items such as breakfast, sauces, and healthy desserts. These items add a little bit of hand made help to those who want to cook, but do not have the time to do it all.
What wise words of wisdom would you give to an entrepreneur who may be hesitant to take the plunge into entrepreneurship?
I would tell someone who wants to start their own business that no one will care about your business as much as you do, so never compromise your product, morals, or values. Make sure you do your best every time. Stay true to who you are and follow the path that YOU see for your business. Also, be ready to work really hard. Nothing will be handed to you, so you need to really want success and go out and get it.
What is it like being an entrepreneur in Greater Hartford? What difficulties or challenges have you faced?
I find it to be exciting to be an entrepreneur in the Greater Hartford area. If you are an individual or a family, people are very busy and also care about what they eat. I make healthy eating easy for others, and people are enthusiastic about it. My service buys you back time and that is needed in a busy community. Difficulties I have faced are not so much from the community; I am a one-woman show so my work is non-stop. But that's not a complaint, I love it.
What is your vision for your business venture over the next five years?
Over the next five years I hope to grow my clientele, hire a few helping hands, and keep giving out a product that is consistent and people love. I do not have the exact answer. I put out cards thinking I would have time to figure everything out and had my first client was that very day and I just hit the ground running ever since, and that was about a year and a half ago. For the future, I hope to keep on learning and improving and loving what I do.
