Hartford's Farmers Markets

Aug 06, 2018

Farmers Markets are here in Hartford! Each market is committed to providing residents access to fresh, healthy, and local produce.

All set on groceries? These farmers markets also provide opportunities to meet and mingle with your community. Some markets even provide cooking demonstrations, crafts, and musical performances. They have something for everyone!

Take a look below at each of the farmers markets for when they open and what they offer.

Billings Forge
June - October
Thursdays 11:00-2:00pm
Billings Forge Green next to Firebox

Billings Forge Community Works is proud to hold the largest Farmers’ Market in Hartford. Our summer market features fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and meats, all grown in Connecticut. The summer market is also a great place to spend your lunch hour eating at the Kitchen, Firebox, or one of our food trucks. Each first market of the month features additional craft and specialty vendors, guest food trucks, and music.

Frog Hollow
June - October
Mondays & Fridays from 3:00-6:00pm
Dirt Lot - 75 Laurel Street, Hartford

The incubator program supports individuals who are passionate about farming and want to make a career out of it. Currently six farmers are growing food familiar to their cultural background, developing necessary partnerships with local farmer’s markets, and actively improving and up scaling their production. KNOX provides these farmers with access to land, infrastructure, equipment, and one-on-one support during the first few years of farm business start-up.

Homestead Avenue
June - October
Wednesdays from 2:00-5:00pm
255 Homestead Avenue at the Chrysalis Center

Farmers travel from all over Connecticut to bring fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers, as well as homemade goodies, to our Farmers’ Market. Chrysalis Center’s training kitchen, La Cocina, offers baked goods and ready-made dinners to go. The Market operates seasonally, providing access to fresh local foods to families in our impoverished neighborhood. It also draws commuters leaving Hartford via Homestead Avenue.

North End
June - October
Wednesdays from 10:00-1:00pm
In front of the North End Senior Center on 80 Coventry Street

In 1979, Hartford Food System took over the management of a farmers market that had started the previous year at Hartford’s historic Old State House, later adding four new markets in Hartford’s lower-income neighborhoods.

Old State House
June - October
Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00-2:00pm
In the brick courtyard in front of Connecticut's Old State House

Did you know that the Old State House Farmers Market is the oldest of its kind in Connecticut? In 1643, Hartford was required to establish a "weekly market" at the site of the Old State House. Today, we continue this tradition by hosting the Old State House Farmers Market. The goal of the Old State House Farmers Market is to offer a variety of products from as many farmers and artisan vendors as possible within the available space. We are committed to offering a vibrant marketplace in downtown Hartford where local farmers and artisans can enjoy coming together with the community to share the "best" of what Connecticut has to offer!

Park Street
July - October
Mondays from 9:30-1:00pm
Walgreen's Parking Lot, Corner of Park and Washington Streets

They bring fresh and local produce to the vibrant Frog Hollow and South Green neighborhoods, providing greater access to community members and offering a variety of agricultural products for every season.

Regional Farmers Market
May - October
Saturday Mornings
101 Reserve Road, Hartford

An expansive and unique farmers’ market administered by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture has operated for decades on the grounds of the Regional Market and continues to offer a shopping experience unlike any other available today.

West End
June - October
Tuesdays 4:00-7:00pm
385 Farmington Avenue, Hartford

The West End Farmers' Market of Hartford believes that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy, delicious food. Through partnerships with local farmers, businesses and nonprofit agencies, the market strives to bring a vibrant mix of locally-grown farm products and locally-made artisanal crafts to the West End and Asylum Hill neighborhoods of Hartford.

Each one provides something a little different. Don't miss out on your chance to check them out this Summer and Fall!
