September Community Collection for Hands On Hartford

Sep 06, 2018

Every September HYPE's Community Involvement Committee holds a community collection for a local Hartford organization. On Wednesday, HYPE members and HYPE Cup Teams dropped off much needed school supplies and snacks such as granola bars, markers, pens, rulers, juice boxes, applesauce, macaroni and cheese, crayons, and more at our Get HYPEd at V's Trattoria. We collected over 1,010 items for HSept 18 Collection collageands on Hartford to distribute to students throughout the school year!

Hands on Hartford is a social service nonprofit organization that serves Hartford’s neediest residents in the areas of food, housing, and health. Current services, reaching about 8,500 people annually, include assistance with housing, nutrition, and more. Through MANNA Food and Neighborhood Services, direct relief  is provided to thousands of Hartford neighbors each month including Community Meals, Community Pantry, and the Backpack Nutrition Program for youth, the initiative our donation directly supports. Many kids in Hartford receive free lunch throughout the week at school, but struggle to find enough food to eat on the weekends. This program provides youth with a backpack each Friday containing four meals, drinks, and snacks, as well as other enhancements such as school supplies.

Through this collection, we also partnered with one of Leadership Greater Hartford's 2018 Quest Taskforce groups, who's project focuses on supporting the Backpack Nutrition Program. HYPE's donation is in support of their efforts, and members of the Quest Taskforce along with HYPE staff dropped off the donation to Hands on Hartford, who were grateful for the support. If you missed donating, or would like to make another donation, the Quest Taskforce has you covered! Simply check out their website for more ways to donate!

Thank you to all who supported, and a special thank you to our Community Involvement Committee led by Lisa Pawlik, for making this collection such a success. Check out all of the photos on Facebook.
