HYPE's annual Tons of Toys is a fun, festive cocktail party held each year to collect toys to donate to a local children's charity. In 2017, through sponsorships and your donations, we collected an all time record of over 2,060 toys!
How much does it cost to attend?
It costs $20 per person, or one new, unwrapped toy (valued around $20) to enter the event. We ask that everyone register in advance so we have a head count for the delicious hors d'ouevres that will be served, but all payment will be taken at the door.
Where do the toys go?
The toys are being donated to the YMCA of Greater Hartford, in support of their youth and family programs. The YMCA of Greater Hartford consists of 10 branches and two resident camps providing more than 100 programs and services in Hartford, Tolland, and Windham counties. We hope that our donation brightens the holiday season for some of the youth served, as well as supports the many programs of the YMCA. The toys will be delivered the day after the event to be distributed to the branches.
Is there a certain toy I should bring?
We are grateful for every toy donated, but if you're looking for some suggestions, here is a list of the most-requested items:
Art Supplies – paint, paper, beads, gimp, string, markers, smocks, play dough
Lawn Games – bean bag toss, corn hole
Sports Equipment –soccer balls, volleyballs, basketball, footballs, hula hoops, jump ropes, t-ball
Board Games – uno, checkers, chess, jenga, sorry, life, guess who, monopoly, scrabble
Dress Up Play /Dramatic Play
Fisher Price Play Sets – preschool toys
What does the event include, what should I expect?
Tons of Toys includes delicious hors d'ouevres provided by Marquee Events, a cash bar (cash only, no credit cards), Santa Claus, an amazing cake by A Little Imagination Cakes, music provided Miles Elliot, and more!
Location and Parking
Tons of Toys will be held at Marquee Events & Catering featuring The Gershon Fox Ballroom at 960 Main Street, Hartford. Street parking is available on surrounding streets (free after 6PM), or you can choose one of the many parking garages that are located nearby. The MAT Garage is across the street from 960 Main next to Hartford Stage, and the Morgan Street Garage is located off Market Street. If you park in the Morgan Street Garage, you can enter 960 Main Street from the rear entrance and come up through to the ground floor. See all of your parking options on this handy map.
What time should I arrive?
Santa will be in attendance so for the kids from 4:30-5:30pm, so if you have kids, nieces or nephews who can't wait to have their photo with Santa, come on by! There will be cookies and milk (for the kids)!
The event officially begins at 6pm for delicious food, cocktails, and fun! Don’t worry, Santa will be there for the adults too!
What should I wear?
Most people like to get a little more dressed up for this event! You're welcome to come in business dress, or feel free to glam it up a little with a fun cocktail dress or holiday themed tie!
