One of the fundamental elements of HYPE's mission is community involvement, and we are so grateful for the support of all of our members. Tons of Toys once again showcased the generosity of our members and sponsors, and all efforts combined resulted in collection of over 1,700 toys!
The 13th annual holiday celebration at Marquee Events featuring the Gershon Fox Ballroom on Wednesday, December 5th was attended by over 225 young professionals. For an entry fee of one new unwrapped toy or $20, guests enjoyed delicious hors d'ouevres provided by Marquee Events, and an incredible cake by A Little Imagination Cakes, photo booth fun by After Hours Photo Booth, while dancing the night away to music by Miles Elliot. Many attendees brought more than one toy, truly getting into the holiday giving spirit. We are so grateful to ConnectiCare for their presenting sponsorship that made this event possible. We appreciate your continued support of Tons of Toys!
Despite his very busy schedule HYPE's December Member of the Month, Santa, made an appearance! From 4:30-5:30pm, Santa tool photos with the children, nieces and nephews, or friends of HYPEsters who just couldn’t wait to meet the man himself. The YMCA of Greater Hartford, the beneficiary of Ton of Toys, brought some of their kids from the Wilson-Gray Youth & Family Center to write letters to Santa, snap a photo with him, and then enjoy Santa’s favorite snack, milk and cookies.
Before the event, donations from generous sponsors were collected to fund a toy shopping spree at Target’s South Windsor location on Sunday, December 2nd. Volunteers filled up many carts with sports equipment, pre-school toys, craft kits, dolls, and much more on behalf of our $500 Candy Cane Sponsors BL Companies, BlumShapiro, KBE Building Corporation, May, Bonee & Clark, and United Bank, and our $1,000 Mistletoe Sponsors Halloran Sage, Webster Bank, and Zag Interactive. We also had amazing support once again from our $5,000 Sugar Plum Sponsor LEGO!
We were truly grateful receive an additional grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving again this year. This incredibly generous gift allowed us to purchase specific items requested by the 12 branches, two resident camps, and many pre-school and after school sites. Some of the items include new video gaming systems, tablets, dramatic play items, and more. Thanks to the support of sponsors, we were also able to support 38 youth from the Chrysalis Center Family Matters Program.
The toys were delivered on Thursday, December 6th to the East Hartford YMCA location where staff from the YMCA were waiting to help unload the truck and organize the toys for their youth and families. Thank you to Red Thread for assisting with the transportation of all of the toys. Their support through the donation of the truck, as well as staff assistance throughout the event helps us every step of the way, from the shopping spree, the the day of the event, to drop off the next day. We cannot thank them enough for their continued support!
