HYPE's Community Involvement Committee
holds a community collection every April. This year, the committee chose to collect personal hygiene items to be
donated to Community Partners in Action
in support of the Reentry Welcome Center
. On Wednesday, HYPE members and HYPE Cup Teams dropped off much needed items such as toothpaste, tooth brushes, soap, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner and more at Get HYPEd at Spectra Wired | Bar 5
. We collected over 600 items to fill backpacks for clients of the Reentry Welcome Center. Many thanks to our friends at Event Resources
for donating a truck to store the donation safely overnight and transport the items to the center. HYPE and Event Resources staff dropped off the donations to Community Partners in Action Reentry Welcome Center, where they were greeted by grateful staff.
Community Partners in Action focuses on behavioral change and advocates for criminal justice reform. Through employment, recovery, reentry and basic needs services, Community Partners in Action works to reduce recidivism, inform policy, and enhance public safety, making a positive impact in the lives of adults and youth throughout Connecticut.
The Reentry Welcome Center is a place where individuals returning home from incarceration can feel welcome and receive support, providing information, referrals, and services such as basic needs; housing; substance abuse/mental health; medical; employment; identification; and so much more. The donation of hygiene items will be used to fill backpack for those returning home from incarceration.
Thank you to all who donated, and a special than you to Greg Calnen, Vice Chair of the Community Involvement Committee, for leading a successful collection.
