On Friday, May 10th Junior Achievement of Southwest New England (JA) will host its 16th annual Partners in Achievement Breakfast from 7:15-9:00am at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. The event celebrates JA’s impact in the community, showcases students who have experienced JA in their classrooms, and highlights the critical need for financial literacy and workforce readiness programs in our schools. JA is also celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year, an incredible milestone for a great organization that supports students becoming financially responsible and entrepreneurially savvy as they prepare to become our future workforce.
During this breakfast you will get to hear firsthand from students, educators, and volunteers who have experienced JA programs. These programs are delivered by volunteers from business and the community, working hand in hand with classroom teachers to inspire students, through interactive activities that allow students to learn by doing. The JA Annual Breakfast is a great opportunity to network with the region's top business leaders, and last year's event was attended by more than 500 people!
In 2013, HYPE and JA teamed up to create the Entrepreneurial Academy, a program bringing urban and suburban high school students together to gain skills in entrepreneurism, leadership, teamwork, ethics and career development. The program has recently expended from two classes to three, serving students from different parts of the Greater Hartford Region; one takes place at the JA offices in Hartford and is supported by The Hartford, one is hosted and supported by Stanley Black & Decker in New Britain, and one is supported by Pratt & Whitney and hosted at Goodwin College.
Once again, the JA Entrepreneurial Academy will be the beneficiary of Tee it Up for Charity at the Travelers Championship (Thursday, June 20th, save the date!). We also have members of our leadership team serving as board members for all three Entrepreneurial Academy locations.
Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to network and support the more than 47,000 young people JA will serve this school year! The event is completely free to attend, and there will be an opportunity to make a personal donation to JA. If you'd like to attend, you can contact Kim Bishop for more information or email PIARSPV@jaconn.org and be sure to mention you are a HYPE member!
